In the infamous "Howard the Duck" (1986) the character of Dr. Jennings (Jeffrey Jones) is slowly transformed. His effects makeup became an important plot point. In order to see what he may look like at every stage, the make up effects department creates special detailed life-size busts of the actor, so the director can see just what the next stage will look like and then to use as a reference when applying the actual makeup to the actor.
